Job Announcement: Coordinator for Emergency Helpline

An exciting new project opening up in Cairo is looking for a dynamic, self motivated individual to set up and manage an emergency help line for migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.

 

 

Coordinator, Emergency Help Line for Migrants, Asylum Seekers and Refugees

 

Part time (20 hours per week)

Responsible to Steering Committee

Job initially based at Tadamon

Initial six month position, possibility of extension

 

Introduction

 

             

The job will develop with the recruitment and training of volunteers into the day to day running of the helpline, maintaining and updating the database and manual and ensuring the continued training of volunteers.

 

A Helpline established by organizations assisting refugees and migrants will begin in Cairo in April 2010. The Coordinator will work with the Steering Committee to initiate the Helpline.

 

Tasks for Phase One: Set-up of Helpline

·        Set-up office and phone lines.

·        Establish management system including financial system.

·        Liaise with Steering Committee to interview experts and organizations to be included in the referral database.

·        Coordinate development of Helpline hand book for volunteers.

·        Recruit volunteers

·        Coordinate training of volunteer

 

 

Phase Two : Manage the project

·        Administer Helpline and maintain systems of administration including finance.

·        Maintain daily roster of volunteers.

·        Recruit and train new volunteers as needed.

·        Identify and recruit new organizations and experts for Referral List as needed

·        paperwork and administrative procedures

·        Follow up on calls requiring referral to ensure adequate care within 48 hours

 

Requirements

Fluent in English and Arabic (written and spoken)

Experience working with vulnerable populations, preferably refugees and/or migrants

Computer literate (Microsoft Office and ability to update and maintain a web site)

Strong communication skills
